The Racecourse
Innovation is movement through systems.
The Innovators Racecourse™ recognises that innovation does not unfold in isolation, but within environments shaped by institutions, incentives and relationships.

When you enter the Racecourse you begin by observing the system in which innovation unfolds. Around the course you will encounter a series of visual observations — paintings and sketches that capture moments where new ideas meet existing structures.

These images are not illustrations in the conventional sense. They are prompts for observation, inviting you to see how innovators interact with institutions, organisations and markets as they move through the course.
Along the way you will also encounter a set of tools — visual models that support navigation through the system.
These tools support three capabilities that become increasingly important as leadership responsibility grows:
Abstraction. Articulation. Alignment.
Together they form the 3A Leadership Architecture.
This section introduces elements of the course that innovators typically experience as ideas move through complex systems.
The underlying concepts and their deeper development are explored in greater detail in The Art & Architecture of Scaling.
